Our traditional family run Victorian country pub, has sat proudly on the hill in Layer road since the 1850's, directly opposite the Folly. Surrounded by woodland and just 3.5 miles from the historic City of Colchester.
We have a large carpark, and a Large enclosed secluded garden and patio area, with a Gazebo, plenty of room for children and dogs. Ideal for those lazy hazy days.
As you step into our inviting bar area, our friendly front of house team is here to greet you with a warm smile. We happily welcome dogs in the bar however, this area is not for children and they may enjoy one of our dinings rooms and of course our beautiful garden.

Our Chefs take great pride in preparing and cooking food for you to enjoy. Fresh fish is always on the menu, supplied by our Mersea fisherman and our local suppliers. Meats and Sausages are supplied by F J Martin Colchester. Fresh fruit and Vegetables are supplied by Bonners Barn Peldon.
