Our traditional family run Victorian country pub, has sat proudly on the hill in Layer road since the 1850's, directly opposite the Folly. Surrounded by woodland and just 3.5 miles from the historic City of Colchester.
We have a large carpark, and a Large enclosed secluded garden and patio area, with a Gazebo, plenty of room for children and dogs. Ideal for those lazy hazy days.

Our friendly front of house team awaits you in the welcoming bar area. Feel free to bring your furry friends along as dogs are welcome in both the bar and dining room.
The front entrance leads to the Bar area, where you will be warmly greeted by our friendly front of house team.
Dogs are welcome in the bar, and the dinning room adjacent to it.
Children are not allowed in the bar area, however children are welcome in the other two dinning rooms.

Our Chefs take great pride in preparing and cooking food for you to enjoy. Fresh fish is always on the menu, supplied by our Mersea fisherman and our local suppliers. Meats and Sausages are supplied by F J Martin Colchester. Fresh fruit and Vegetables are supplied by Bonners Barn Peldon.
